Lessons and Courses

Ableton Set I offer one - to - one lessons, either in person or online over ZOOM, or group lessons as part of a weekly class. Below is an outline of the topics covered, but individual lessons are tailored to the needs of the student, so the content is very flexible. A lesson plan will be offered after an initial meeting.

Some of the topics we will cover:

Recording techniques, understanding microphones, audio interfaces and using music software such as Logic Pro; Understanding the signal path of audio, FX and signal processors such as compressors, EQ, delay and reverb and how to use them; Learning how to mix a multitrack recording and preparing it for mastering; Creative use of FX; Creative sound design;

Consultancy Services

For individuals and small businesses / studios

I offer a complete service - from creating an equipment and software list based on your needs and budget, sourcing and purchasing and setting up everything when the equipment arrives at your home or place of work.

The setting up includes system configuration, downloading and installing all necessary software and a basic tutorial on how to use the hardware and software.

Further tutorials (either at your home / place of work) or online via ZOOM are available as well.

For Schools and Education facilities

Many schools /education departments need to build small studios with spaces for recording, music workstations and / or mixing desks and amplification.

I can help you do this with minimum fuss, using my expertise to help you create a creative working environment for your students within budget and to a high standard. I have had many years of experience in this field, including building the electronic music studios for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

My Background

I have been involved in Music IT since my first encounter with a Moog synthesiser at the Rubin Academy of Music in 1977. Combined with an introduction to Musique Concréte by Professor Yitzhak Sadai (who knew Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry and many other electroacoustic luminaries) I was absolutely hooked from day one.

After moving to the UK, I was involved in numerous 'electronic music' projects with two colleagues (Francis Monkman and Geaorge Chkiantz). set up Digital Music Archives (a company which promoted electroacoustic music), became a lecturer at the Guildhall School of music where I built their two electronic music studios and put together and taught the curriculum for students at all levels (incl. post Graduate composers). In the 80's and 90's I was Music Director of the Electric Symphony Orchestra, a full size symphony orchestra which was amplified with surround sound in the concert hall and accompanied by light shows.

I began composing electroacoustic music in the 80's and continue to do so to the present day. I work with computers and music software, recording gear and other music related technology every day of my life.

I have built many studios for schools and other educational institutions as well as teaching and helping others get on the Music IT ladder.
